My condolences to Joanne's family. I was a student at Lawrence university when Joanne gave my an opportunity to intern at the museum. I am now pursuing my Phd in paleontology and I attribute her guidance during my early schooling as starting my career. Thank you Joanne and my sympathies to her family.

Scott and Don, So sorry for you loss. In the constellation of Leo lies a faint star designated 40 Leonis barely visible to the naked-eye but easily seen in binoculars near the much brighter star of Albieba. 40 Leonis is special since it is over 400 trillion miles away around 69 light years. The photons of light from 40 Leonis have spent the last 69 years a lifetime getting to Earth. Again, sorry for your loss.

She taught me so many things through her example - and I know there must be scores of others that learned from her as well. She was a world class scientist and a dedicated educator and curator.

And oh the memories - she loved cats like I do. We
