Mary was a member of the Outagamie County Democrats, Wisconsin Education Association Council, Wisconsin Jobs Now, and also sang with the Sweet Adelines in Oshkosh. During retirement, she enjoyed golfing and furniture restoration, and was an accomplished seamstress.
