Elaine Lucille Wentland Grulke, age 88, of Menasha, passed away into the arms of God during the early hours of Friday, July 7, 2017 at St. Elizabeth's Hospital. She was born in Deerfield, Wisconsin on March 16, 1929, one of two children born to dairy farmers Albert and Evelyn Wentland. Elaine graduated from Deerfield High School in 1947 and upon completion attended Whitewater College in Janesville, Wisconsin. She started her career working in the offices of Crepaco in Lake Mills. She later went on to marry Robert Grulke of Lebanon, Wisconsin at St. John's Lutheran Church in Dubuque, Iowa on March 1, 1959. They then moved to Lincoln, Nebraska where they had three children and later moved to Menasha, Wisconsin where she currently resided. Elaine was a long time employee with Gimbels and later at Dayton’s, Marshall Field’s, and Macy’s stores, retiring in 2007. Additionally, she was a longtime Town of Menasha election worker. Elaine’s legacy will be the joy she brought to so many others - whether through that never forgotten award winning handwritten birthday card in the mail, a slice of her grasshopper pie, her famous sugar cookies or her willingness to travel great distance for special moments. Anyone who received a note from her recognized that beautiful handwriting which, as a younger woman, she won awards for. Elaine was always kind and gentle with a smile on her face. In her younger days, Elaine was an avid baker and canner putting up many jars of food for her family from the large family garden. She loved gardening and traveling and especially loved Yellowstone and traveling to Alaska. She loved to attend craft fairs, go up north, and be around her grandchildren. Elaine is survived by her three children: Forrest (Rebecca) Grulke of Stevens Point; Nancy Wissell of Woodstock, Illinois; and Tracy (Dan) Curtin of Hortonville. There are also eight grandchildren: Krystyna, Barrett, Bryttany, Mackenzie, Alexis, Madison, Hayden and Cody; and three great-grandchildren: Ian, Stella and Charlotte. Other survivors include her in-laws: Emil Grulke, Jr., Betty Grulke, Stuart Grulke, Kathy Schuman and Delores Wentland; and a cousin Shirley Wille. Elaine was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Robert and a brother Edward. The funeral service for Elaine will be held at 11:30 AM on Tuesday, July 11, 2017 at Immanuel Lutheran Church of Lebanon, located at N554 County Road R near Watertown, Wisconsin. Rev. David M. Phillips will officiate, and interment will follow in the Kroghville Cemetery near Lake Mills. Family and friends are invited to gather at the Wichmann Funeral Home, Tri County Chapel, 1592 Oneida Street in Menasha on Monday from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM. (Due to Oneida Street construction, best access is from Highway 441). Visitation will resume at the church in Lebanon on Tuesday morning from 10:00 AM until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to Yellowstone Forever, a non-profit organization created to preserve, protect and enhance Yellowstone National Park - one of Elaine’s favorite places.
